Staying on the subject of food I thought I’d add a post about restaurants I’ve eaten in. At this stage I’ve been to quite a few in Abruzzo and I have enjoyed most of them. I’m not going to list all of them today, so look out for further posts.
The two restaurants I’ve been to most often are in the Loreto Aprutino area. The first, New Evo, is in the town itself. I love this place. You’ll find it here. My favourite dish is the antipasti misti, a collection of small dishes that are based on whatever is in season. You may not like everything you get, but before you judge you should try. I was surprised to find I actually liked tripe! Something just worked between the tripe and the tomato sauce. The key thing is that there is plenty of variety, so if something does not appeal, something else will.
Another great feature of New Evo is in the summer months the restaurant moves across the street to an open courtyard for al fresco dining.
The second restaurant is La Bilancia. This is a hotel and a restaurant, but I have never stayed there. The restaurant is used often for family gatherings and celebrations of all types. I find it hard not to go for the fettuccine ai funghi, it is fantastic. To be honest, I don’t think I have ever had a pasta dish there that I didn’t think was fantastic. I don’t think I have ever looked at a menu there. Usually you are told what pasta, sauces and meat dishes are on offer that day. You’ll find it here, not too far from Passocordone, just outside Loreto Aprutino.
