I’d wanted to see the inside of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Atri for a long time.
Going to Atri is the obvious first step. But I’d been there at least three times and each time the cathedral was closed for restoration.

I’ve been “off the air” for a little while as I was concentrating on exploring rather than writing. In the last few weeks I’ve been busy doing the following:
exploring parts of the Majella I hadn’t seen before
visiting an abbey with an amazing floor
visiting a basilica with fantastic frescoes
exploring shepherds’ ancient stone refuges
taking photos of the [...]
There are many reasons for visiting Atri in the Teramo province of Abruzzo:
The Santa Maria Assunta cathedral which dominates the town’s historic centre
The frescoes contained inside the cathedral
The erosion furrows surrounding the town
The views of the Adriatic Sea, and the peaks of the Majella and Gran Sasso
