This post isn’t strictly about Abruzzo, but it does reflect an important and obvious aspect of spending time anywhere in Italy; namely the Italian language. I think Italian is a beautiful language. It rises and falls with ideas and emotion. I have met many English speakers who appear to speak with one tone only but I [...] Tesori D’Abruzzo and D’Abruzzo are two tourism magazines which highlight aspects of the Abruzzo region. Actually they focus on all things associated with tourism, culture, environment, wine and food. Or as they put it, touismo, cultura, ambiente e enogastronomia. Although D’Abruzzo has a scattering of article summaries in English, they are fundementaly Italian magazines, for Italians, and so, naturally, they’re written in Italian. But [...] My Italian isn’t great. I work at it, but it is far from fluent. I can hold a basic conversation, and with a mixture of Italian, gestures, stock phases like “I am looking for something that can …” or “What is this called?”, I get by. I want to get better.
