We boiled up snow and ice to make hot strong Bovril. That was a line used by Chris Bonington (mountaineer) back in 1979 when he did a television commercial for the beefy drink. Some ads stick. As we walked around Loreto Aprutino on 11 February 2012 I couldn’t get that line out of my head. [...] In 1945 Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne wrote the song Let It Snow. It’s been sung by many artists but probably most famously by Dean Martin whose father, Gaetano Crocetti was from Montesilvano, quite close to the beach where I took the photographs below. I think Dean Martin first recorded the song back in 1959 [...] Abruzzo is still covered in snow. Although daytime temperatures are getting above zero the thaw is going to be slow until the second half of this week. I don’t think any part of Abruzzo escaped.
