Last night saw the kick-off of the 2016/2017 Sabato in Concerto season in the Auditorium San Giovanni Evangelista, Penne (PE) .
The Solitaire Quintet gave a fantastic performance ranging from the classical of Mozart, Rossini, Verdi and Bizet to the jazz tinged Brubeck and Ellington via a little twist of tango. In was a great night of music only hindered by the bitter cold in the unheated renovated church of San Giovanni Evangelista.
Although all the pieces played were wonderful with the combination of three clarinets, a bass clarinet and a basset-horn making a fabulous sound, the highlight was the tango Por Una Cabeza which went down so well with the audience that the musicians played it a second time during the encore.
This concert, along with nine others in Popoli (1), Torre De’Passeri (1), Loreto Aprutino (1) and Pescara (6) form this season’s Sabato in Concerto series. If you include the Sabato in Concerto Jazz series, which starts next weekend with concerts in Loreto Aprutino (1), Penne (1), Popoli (1), Torre De’Passeri (1) and Pescara (6), then you have a total of twenty concerts featuring hugely talented musicians playing a wide range of musical styles. What’s not to like?
Did I mention it’s free. Yes free! Practically every Saturday from 3/12/2016 until 25/03/2017 at 18:00 you can find a potentially great performance near you. (Assuming you’re in the Pescara region of Abruzzo. 🙂 )
